After much deliberation, I figured what better way to depict female creativity and empowerment than to draw myself. Not only is this a showcase of many different creative techniques - as the process involved sketching, painting, and digital illustration - it's also an appreciation of the self. In western art, the female form had always been a site of objectification and subject to male mediation. 

 

Recently I went to an artist talk at the Ikon with Roger Hiorns. During, Hiorns stated that his work exclusively dealt with, and aimed at, a male audience, remarking that the female form had "been done". This piece is to say the female form is most definitely NOT done. 

 

Art does not and should not work that way. Situations like this highlight the need for platforms promoting female creativity.
